Wild Blueberries
Wild blueberries (bilberries) have the highest Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) rating of more than 20 fresh fruits and berries. ORAC is a measure that USDA researchers use to determine the antioxidant capacity of different foods including Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Another powerful plant compound, Anthocyanins contain antioxidants that fight free radicals that damage collagen. Collagen is the protein which gives skin elasticity, but sadly as we age collagen breaks down causing wrinkles, so by protecting it we can fight ageing from within!
Acai Berries
Acai berries are also packed full of free-radical fighting antioxidants. Some of these include anthocyanins, polyphenols, and vitamins A, C, and E. They have more protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and C than blueberries, and have less sugar which gives this blend a slightly tart flavour.
Moringa
Moringa is the not-so-new super leaf on the block. Called the ‘miracle tree’ its one of the most nutrient dense plants on the planet. It contains 42 antioxidants which neutralise free radicals and help keep us looking and feeling younger. With 7x more vitamin C than an orange and 8x more magnesium than Kale it more than punches above its weight. Moringa is a great source of beta-carotene which our body uses to make Vitamin A – the essential skin vitamin, which is also essential for a healthy immune system. It’s incredibly dense in micronutrients like zinc (essential for healthy hair production) and antioxidants to help boost keratin production. It’s also said to have adaptogenic properties which means it can help protect against the effects of stress.
Lucuma
Nicknamed the “Gold of the Incas” lucuma is one delicious super fruit that has been used as a traditional remedy in south america for centuries. Packed with antioxidants polyphenols and carotenoids which are anti-inflammatory. It’s also a source of Vitamin C and Zinc. Vitamin C is essential for collagen production and healthy glowing skin. Zinc is responsible for regulating oil production in the skin and helps control some of the hormones related to acne.
Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds are nutrient dense seeds that are particularly high in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids that helps reduce inflammation in the skin AKA acne fighting ! Flaxseeds help repair the skin from the inside out by balancing androgen production, and strengthening skin cells making skin look smoother and radiant. Beautiful skin starts with a healthy gut – flaxseeds are loaded with soluble and insoluble fibre which helps improve digestion and feed our gut microbiota. Flax seeds are a good source of healthy fat, antioxidants and fiber as well as protein, lignans, and the essential fatty acid ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).
